The architecture of Lexmark ink-jet printer cartridges is very similar to HP’s. Like HP’s, Lexmark's printer cartridges use the bubble jet principle. However, whereas HP’s black ink-jet printer cartridges use a foil bag to hold ink, Lexmark’s ink-jet printer cartridges use sponges to retain ink BOTH in the black as well as the color printer cartridges. Due to the compact and proprietary combination of printer head and ink tank, there are no 3rd-party printer cartridges available for Lexmark.
